Ewha Global Gender & Climate Initiative

Gender and Climate Action

A global platform integrating SDGs and climate crisis response from a gender perspective, addressing climate crisis, energy transition, and environmental health through women's leadership.

About This Program

The Ewha Global Gender & Climate Initiative (EGGCI) is a global platform that integrates the SDGs and climate crisis response through a gender lens. It aims to connect and synthesize climate action and gender — the most critical variables in achieving the SDGs today.

EGGCI will serve as a global platform dedicated to addressing climate crisis, energy transition, and environmental health issues through the lens of women's leadership and gender equity.

Key objectives: (1) Gender-Responsible Climate Policy — contributing to the development of climate policies from a gender perspective; (2) Women Leadership in Sustainability — linking sustainability with women's leadership; (3) Gender & Planetary Health Research — building a research framework for gender and global environmental issues.

Core Activities

Global Gender & Climate Fellowship

A women leader training program targeting global female public officials, women scientists from developing countries, women NGO leaders, and young female climate activists. The curriculum covers gender-responsive climate policy, climate finance, planetary environmental health, climate AI, and gender data analysis. Leveraging Ewha Womans University's summer session, the program will consist of a global fellowship and Field Immersion programs in ODA regions.

Gender & Climate Living Lab

(1) Climate & Maternal Health Program (heat wave response, pregnancy, climate-health monitoring) (2) Women's Energy Transition Lab (clean cooking, solar microgrids, women's energy startup support) (3) Climate Resilience Community Building (water resources, agriculture, disaster response capacity building)

Global Gender Climate Policy Hub

Serving as a gender-based climate policy think tank, focusing on research areas such as environmental health inequality and gender-climate vulnerability. Goals include developing global gender-climate indicators and dispatching delegates to the Conference of the Parties (COP).

Youth Women Climate Leadership Network

As a youth engagement platform, this initiative aims to bridge and actively connect youth with policymakers and international arenas to build and maximize relationships (including the Global Women Climate Leaders Forum and Youth Climate Policy Hackathon).
